About Black Mountain

Even 10,000 years ago, the Cherokee Indians easily recognized the truly special quality of Black Mountain and settled in this mysteriously compelling nook of nature. Ever since, scores of people have followed to absorb the nourishing and calming qualities this area offers. Known as the front porch of Western North Carolina, its beautiful mountain scenery, charming streets, large variety of recreational activities and the friendliness of its folk have made it a destination favorite.

Numerous shops and galleries offer treasures from the efforts of local artists and craftsmen, and as creative types are often moving here for the artistic energy, there’s always much to see!

As for dining, there are over forty restaurants to choose from. And for the action-hearted, there are all sorts of great activities to enjoy. There’s hiking and biking, golf at Black Mountain’s famous 18-hole golf course (home to the 747-yard, par 6—17th hole, which at one time was the longest hole in the world) and an array of festivals to explore: Sourwood Festival, L.E.A.F Festival, Black Mountain Art and Craft Show, and Art in Bloom can get you started.

For the overnight visitor, there are historic B&B’s or quaint cottages for your stay. And some of the region’s greatest attractions are within a short drive; Blue Ridge Parkway, Asheville’s Biltmore Estate, Lake Lure and Chimney Rock State Park. Pack a picnic and take a walk around Lake Tomahawk. Whatever you choose to do, you’re always surrounded by the ever-changing mountain views, waiting for you to share in their celebration of life. Some say the trees whisper their secrets here.

Known as The Front Porch of Western North Carolina, Black Mountain is cradled by mountains and surrounded with gorgeous views; located just 15 miles east of Asheville.

The pace is slower here and you can almost hear the mountain spirit beckon you to linger. Spend the day or nestle down for the night in a cozy inn or bed and breakfast.

Our town overflows with art & craft galleries, artist studios, specialty & antique shops, bookstores and furniture stores, where you can bring a piece of the mountains back home with you. Enjoy lunch in a charming restaurant or cafe, go biking, hiking or just sit awhile. Spend the afternoon at Lake Tomahawk with its walking path, swimming pool, tennis courts, golf and croquet. Feed the ducks, swing on a swing and feel like a kid again. Pass the evening with a pleasant stroll, or tap your foot to the beat in one of Black Mountain's music clubs.

Come sit on the Front Porch of Western North Carolina and enjoy the quality of life we accept as every day living.
