Burnsville has been a relaxing and beautiful community for over 100 years. Its elevation of 2,815 feet allows visitors and residents alike to enjoy  the gorgeous vistas of Mt. Mitchell as well as 18 additional peaks within Yancy County that exceed 6300 feet. Its wonderful town square, serving as the seat for Yancy County, has been the centerpiece for all sorts of town gatherings and celebrations since the early 1900’s. Activities are sponsored by organizations such as the Toe River Arts Council and the Yancey County Chamber of Commerce.

People come from all over the country to explore over 100 miles of hiking trails or back roads for bicycle or car excursions. You can stay at one of two historic bed & breakfasts if you like, as well as a variety of mountain cabins. The Parkway Playhouse, now in its 61st season, puts on a fine production, and the Yancy Theatre shows fist run movies for only $5.00!
