About Hendersonville

Known for a relaxed manner and friendly people, Historic Hendersonville and the Village of Flat Rock sit nestled in the heart of the Blue Ridge National Heritage Area in Western North Carolina, 22 miles south of Asheville. Its gentle climate of 4 beautiful seasons, spectacular scenery, recreational facilities and rich culture and history all contribute to the area’s popularity, making it a travel destination for over a century.

Historic Downtown Hendersonville, with its traditional southern hometown charm, was entered into the National Register of Historic Places in March of 1988. It hosts many activities including the NC Apple Festival held during Labor Day weekend, as well as art shows, an antique show, car shows, and parades throughout the year.

Planter boxes brimming with seasonal flowers and trees line Main Street, where specialty shops, antique stores and restaurants abound. Local attractions include the National Historic Site and home place of American poet, Carl Sandburg; the state theatre of North Carolina, Flat Rock Playhouse; Biltmore Estate; NC Arboretum; the Blue Ridge Parkway; Pisgah National Forest; and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Sitting 15 miles north of the North-South Carolina border, the elevation of Hendersonville is approximately 2,200 feet above sea level.

DuPont State Forest - The forest encompasses 10,300 acres in Henderson and Transylvania counties. It is situated in the Little River valley and includes waterfalls and 80 miles of roads and trails wandering through mountainous terrain. The forest is open year round for hiking, mountain biking, swimming and horseback riding. Fishing is allowed with a valid NC fishing license.
